Publishing Lecture Notes on the Web

Teachers commonly provide course material on the World Wide Web in conjunction with presentation of the same material in a conventional classroom or lecture situation.

A problem occurs when presentation graphics software such as Powerpoint is used to prepare lecture material. Two options are available:

Conversion
The proprietory presentation graphics file is transformed into HTML, usually via an intermediate format such as RTF.

Use external viewers
The presenter simply makes the lecture material available in the original presentation graphics file format, but indexed from a Web page. The student must install a suitable "viewer", and configure his or her browser to use it.
