Use of External Viewers
Advantages of publishing lecture material in the original
presentation graphics (eg, Powerpoint) format include:
- The effort of the presenter is minimised.
- The "artistic integrity" of the original presentation is
preserved. This can be important in some disciplines.
Some disadvantages include:
- Much of the power of the Web to enhance learning is foregone.
For example, hyperlinks cannot be added directly into the
classroom material.
- Browsing is limited. In our experience, typical "viewer"
software can only offer "forward" and "backward" stepping
through the document.
- The presentation of the material may be less than optimal
for personal viewing (eg, inappropriate text size).
