Assignments
For marks, dates due, and links see the Assessment Overview page.
Assignment Regulations
Assignments are due at 4pm on the date specified.
Place assignments in the appropriate assignment cupboard outside of
B2.28.
Do not hand assignments to your tutor or the lecturer.
Assignments will be returned in tutorials.
Presentation
- All written material should be easily understood, grammatically correct and
without spelling errors
- Printed material must be clear and of a good quality
- All assignments must be bound firmly into an A4 cover
- DO NOT submit loose material or sheets in separate plastic pockets. It should
be possible to read or write on any page without undoing any fastenings or removing
them from pockets
- Always set out the work in the order specified in the assignment
- Consider the job of the person marking the dozens of assignments - don't make
it any harder than it needs to be!
All assignments require the following:
- Title Page: this should contain: the student's name, subject name,
student number, tutorial group, tutors name, assignment number and the submission
date
- Statement of Authorship: this must contain your name, subject, assignment
number, signature and the date signed.
- Table of Contents: this should list all the major sections in the
assignment and the page numbers they occur on
Marks will be deducted for poor presentation
Late Assignments
Assignments must be handed in by 4pm on the due date or incur the following late
penalties.
| Days Late |
Penalty |
Clarification of Days and Times (if due on Friday) |
| 1-3 |
5% |
Between 4pm Friday and 4pm Monday |
| 4-5 |
20% |
Between 4pm Monday and 4pm Wednesday |
| 6-7 |
40% |
Between 4pm Wednesday and 4pm Friday |
| 7+ |
100%. Not Accepted |
After 4pm on the Friday after it is due |
When calculating the final mark for a late assignment, the late penalty is calculated
based on the maximum possible mark for the assignment. For example if a student
hands the assignment in at 1pm Tuesday (4 days late) and they achieve a raw mark
of 75% on the assignment, then a late penalty of 20% is applied and they get
a final mark of 55% (75% - 20%) for the assignment.
Extensions
Extensions will only be given under exceptional circumstances and will only be
granted if notification is received in writing
Some reasons for not allowing extensions are:
- Extensions are unfair to those who have worked hard to deliver assignments
on time
- The lecturer cannot cover the solution until the last assignment has been
handed in
- A late assignment usually leads to late assignments in other subjects, leading
to a deterioration in the quality of work submitted
- Rigid deadlines exist in the real working environment.
Note: it is better to receive some marks for a partially completed assignment than
none at all.
Plagiarism
- All assessable tutorial and assignment work should be substantially your own.
- Working closely with someone else on a non-group assignment is cheating
- Cheating or plagiarism will result in zero marks for the assignment, and may
result in failing the subject or worse.
- Each assignment must have a signed statement declaring any assistance you
received with the assignment. Assistance from your lecturer or tutor need not
be acknowledged.
- See La Trobe's Policy
on Plagiarism for full information.
